Families urged to join in walk

FAMILIES are being encouraged to walk in memory of their loved ones in support of St Peter's Hospice.

The charity, which provides end of life care and support for people with terminal illnesses and their relatives, will be holding its annual Walk to Remember event at Ashton Court Estate in October.

More than 500 people took part in the fundraiser last year.

Lesley Horton, from Kingswood, will be among the walkers taking part with seven members of her family in memory of her husband Tony, who passed away earlier this year at the age of 59.

"Tony was cared for by St Peter's Hospice during his illness and the level of care he received was not only compassionate but of the highest standard," she said.

"I know he was very happy with the care he received and I would like to thank all those who work there for making Tony's last days not only comfortable but also dignified.

"The staff there also helped the family cope and in a way became the voice of Tony. They were spot on every time whether it was keeping the family informed of what was going on, bringing us cups of tea and coffee or just being there as a shoulder to cry on.

"The work undertaken by all those at St Peter's Hospice is just fantastic. It made our lives a lot easier at what was a very difficult time and will look forward to taking part in the walk so we as a family will be able to reflect and celebrate Tony's life."

Louisa James, of St Peter's Hospice said: "Last year's walk was a great success and it's fantastic to have people like Lesley and her family already signed up."

Registration for the event on October 7 costs £8 per adult and £5 per child (under 16). There is no charge for dogs. To find out more visit www.stpetershospice.org.uk or a St Peter's Hospice shop.
